Christmas tree baubles are one of the oldest and most common tree ornaments. Christmas baubles were invented by a German man named Hans Greiner in the 1840s, originally made to look like the fruit and nuts used in Paradise trees, eventually turning into the spherical ones we use now. Queen Victoria, who popularized the German Christmas tree to the rest of the west supposedly loved the baubles and brought them over from Germany. Because of the ornate, hand-made nature of the glass baubles, they were quite expensive and only the rich were privy to them. Though it wasn't long until plastic baubles were mass-produced and made available for cheap for everyone to enjoy.
